Jaxon had his 2 month checkup this week, which included his first vaccinations. I felt so bad for him, but afterwards, he didn't seem to be bothered... he just slept a lot. Speaking of sleeping, he seems to be adjusting very well to his bedtime routine and slept for over 8 hours each night this week (except for last night when Kate and I got home late from date night and he didn't get to bed until 11 instead of 9).
Jaxon now weighs in at 15lbs 11oz, falling in the 98th percentile for weight. I'm pretty sure his height measurement was wrong, because it was only 22.6" (25th percentile) and I measured him at 24" at home 2 weeks ago. At any rate, he is wearing some 6 month outfits now and has grown out of all his 0-3 and some of his 3-6 sizes already.
We went to our first "Incredible Infants" Birth-to-Three group on Thursday. There are 7 other infants in the class ranging from 2 weeks to 4 months. One of the babies was born on the same day as Jaxon and 2 others were born the day after, all at the same hospital.

Week 8!
It's been a busy 3 weeks since the last post. We were out of town for 2 weeks visiting family and friends in California. Jaxon is an amazing road tripper and slept for the majority of the 8 hour driving stretches. Kate sat in the back seat with him and Lucy got to sit up front with me. Amazingly, it didn't really take much longer than normal, even with feedings and gas stops.
This week was Kate's first week back at work. She is at work 2 days per week for this month to start out, then moves to 3 days in January and full-time in Febuary. My first 2 days as "Mr. Mom" went pretty well. Jaxon usually sleeps pretty well in the morning, then it's off to lunch with Kate followed by running some errands and then back home.
We've also started to attempt a consistent bedtime routine and time this week with a little success. Before this week it was a struggle just to get him asleep by 11:30 or midnight, but so far he has only had one night where he wasn't asleep by 10, and on three nights, he was asleep by 9pm! He have mom a back to work present Monday night and slept for a full 8 hour stretch before needing a feeding! No if we could only get him to fall asleep without the pacifier.
We also had our first day back at the weekly birth to three baby connection on wednesday and got to see how much weight Jaxon has gained since week 5. He is now 15 pounds 5 ounces!!! A full 7 pounds heavier than his birth weight after only 8 weeks.
These pictures were from my phone. More to come once I get around to downloading from the camera!

Still Growing!
Jaxon weighed in at 12 pounds 3 ounces yesterday! Not quite a full pound, but enough to put him above the 95th percentile for weight. It's amazing seeing other babies that were born at the same time or earlier that look so much smaller than Jaxon. There was a 9 week old that was still only 9lb11oz.
Also, grandma Chris pointed out that Jaxon has his eyes closed in all the pictures posted so far, so here are some pictures with his eyes open :) The first 2 are the most recent.

4 weeks old!
It's been a while since the last update, so I thought Jaxon's birthday would be a good time to do it! It's hard to believe he is already 4 weeks old, the time has flown by!
Birth to 3 offers a free drop-in "Baby Connection" every Wednesday where parents can go to meet and talk to other new parents, as well as weigh their baby and speak with a nurse about any concerns or questions. We also get a picture to take home. We took Jaxon in last week and he weighed in at 11 pounds 5 ounces! That's a pound a week weight gain. I'm pretty confident that when we weigh him tomorrow he will be at least 12 pounds. He has been making much more eye contact this week and has even given Kate a couple grins today.

Pumpkin Patch
We took Jaxon to the pumpkin patch the other day. It had actually been a while since Kate and I had been to the pumpkin patch ourselves!

2 week checkup
Jaxon went to the doctor for his 2 week checkup today. The little man is growing by leaps and bounds! He now weighs 9lbs 15oz (85th percentile) and is 21.3 inches long (75th percentile). If he keeps growing at this rate he'll be in his 3-6 month outfits in no time!

Sleepless in Eugene
The sun came out yesterday so we decided to take a family walk to enjoy the weather. We used Jaxon's stroller for the first time and he did pretty well. He got a little fussy, but over all seemed to be fine with it.
Jaxon has been a bit of a fussy night owl.. We thought he was beginning to fall into a routine, but he didn't go to sleep until 1am for the last couple nights. It seems like he has his days and nights mixed up because he naps good during the day. He seems to dream all the time and when he is not swaddled, he startles himself awake pretty often. He also sweats a lot in his sleep.
(sweet ride!)

1 week old!
Jaxon is 1 week old today. He was given a bath and a circumcision for his birthday (great gifts huh?). Poor little guy is having a rough day, but on a positive note, the doctor says his jaundice is on the decline. Based on his alertness, weight gain, the color of his skin, and healthy eating habits, Dr. Fuerth didn't even feel the need to do a blood test for his billirubin level. He's already gained 10oz, weighing in at a hefty 8lbs 15oz! By his 2 week appointment, his umbilical cord, circumcision, and head wound should all be healed. We can't wait!
We've had a huge amount of support from friends and family this week. Thanks to everyone who has stopped by and brought food!

Introducing Jaxon Robert Coppedge!
On October 4, 2011 Kate and I were blessed with a healthy baby boy. Jaxon entered our world at 10:52am, 16 hours after arriving at the hospital. His weight after birth was 8 pounds, 5 ounces and he measured 20", falling in the 50th percentile for both weight and height.
Jaxon had a bit of a rough delivery and suffered substantial bruising and a mild laceration on the top of his head from the vaccuum, leading to a relatively high level of Jaundice. He has had regular blood tests showing increasing levels of billirubin from the breakdown of the red blood cells, and was started on a "billi-blanket" yesterday afternoon to allow us to start phototherapy at home with the hope that he wont have to be admitted to the hospital. At yesterday's appointment he was back to his birth weight, and gained another 4 ounces at today's appointment, which is a positive sign. His billirubin level was only slightly higher today than yesterday. At this point we were told to continue the light therapy until monday at midnight, and his doctor will check his level again on tuesday when we take him in for his circumcision (OUCH! sorry little man!).
